Budget Cuts? What Budget Cuts?
OK, so the state of Illinois is broke. Gov. Quinn is calling for big cuts in spending, and significant increases in taxes. Things are serious. We’re all tightening our belts, right? When the Illinois Department on Aging is enjoying RENT FREE office space, they would never consider moving to a commercial office, the rent for which would cost the state over a half million dollars – Right? Not so fast.
Check this out.
Now are people really this stupid? I don’t think so. I think the problem is a bureaucratic mindset fostered by bureaucratic rules and mores. And we want to add MORE bureaucracy to our health care system??
BTW just to beat this horse one more stroke – the 2010 Fiscal Budget for the Illinois Department on Aging shows projected income of $703,000,000 (round numbers); of that, $80 million is from the Feds. That leaves a needed income of $623 million per year, which is $52 million a month. Does that number sound vaguely familiar to readers of this blog? St. Louis area casinos alone took in $66 million last December alone.
